“Candy” Chaffee
May 20, 1946 – November 24, 2024
Candice “Candy” Linden Chaffee, 78, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024. She has fought the good fight, finished her race and kept her faith and is now in the presence of her Lord.
Born and raised in Sycamore, Illinois, to Lois and Ray Linden, Candy received her degree in Economics from Linden Wood College, St. Charles, Mo., in 1968. She perfected her equestrian skills there, and enjoyed collecting paperweights with her mother, for many years.
Working as an Executive Administrative Assistant with the Suter Co. in Sycamore, Il., Candy met the love of her life, Walter (Walt) Chaffee. When she brought him home to meet her mother Lois, (father deceased), Lois exclaimed “Is he for me!?” They married on August 29, 1981 and Candy instantly became another mother to Walt’s children, Katie, Tom, Nancy, and Carol.
Thus began a lifelong journey of cherished experiences in work, travel, friendships, cats, and family. Walt and Candy worked together throughout their 42 years of marriage. They loved raising three cats, Frosty, Ruffie, and Tummie, and Candy also sold Avon, Mary Kay, and Weekenders clothing products. She was a yoga and exercise enthusiast, volunteering at area thrift stores and the local YMCA. She and Walt were devoted members of the Linden Road Presbyterian Church.
Candy was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Ray Linden, and her devoted husband, Walter Chaffee.
She is survived by her stepchildren Katie Ferguson, Louisiana; Tom Chaffee (Mary Kay), Pennsylvania; Nancy Egly (Doug), South Carolina; and Carol McClure (Mike), Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. Candy has three surviving cousins living in Colorado and Illinois.
Memorial services will be held at the Linden Road Presbyterian Church, Mansfield, at a future date. Burial will be at the Sycamore Cemetery, Sycamore, Illinois.
The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve Candy’s family.
In Candy’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Mansfield Art Center, 700 Marion Avenue, Mansfield Ohio 44906, or Linden Road Presbyterian Church, 160 South Linden Road, Mansfield, Ohio 44903.
