George “Bud” Frank, Jr.
February 6, 1937 – December 5, 2024
George “Bud” Frank, Jr. died peacefully after a long illness. A longtime resident of Mansfield, Bud and his wife Jane (Hutchison) Frank moved to the area in 1985.
Bud and Jane both grew up in Rochester, NY and knew each other since the 10th grade at John Marshall High School. They married in 1968. After serving for a short time at Walter Reed Hospital in the U.S. Army medical core, Bud spent 33 years working for the Boy Scouts of America, which took him around the county and around the world. He spent many of his early years working at Massawepie camp in the Adirondack Mountains of New York before taking an executive role in the Viking Council near Minneapolis, MN.
With family in tow, Bud and Jane moved their four children from one extreme to the next as Bud took a position in international scouting based in Dallas, TX. Bud immediately second-guessed his decision when arriving in Plano, just north of Dallas, on a hot triple digit August day in the early 1980s. While working in international scouting, Bud had the opportunity to travel the world and promote the values of scouting on 4 continents.
After leaving Texas, Bud took the role of Scout Executive of the Buckeye Council in Mansfield. Bud and Jane immediately embraced their new home, making friends lasting these 39 years since relocating to central Ohio, and developing deep bonds in their church and neighborhood communities. Bud embraced his new role advancing scouting in Richland and the surrounding counties, and he also dove right into his new home state becoming a passionate supporter of OSU football.
A lover of the outdoors, Bud skied and hiked well into his late 70’s and instilled in his children and grandchildren a love of being out in nature. Many sweet family memories were made exploring the national parks. Bud was a fiercely loyal husband, father, and friend. He served his family and church community with a selfless attitude, volunteering often, while cheering on his children and grandchildren in whatever sport or activity they pursued.
Bud is survived by his loving wife and best friend Jane, daughters Laurie (and husband Michael) Totta, Susan (and husband Alan) Bain, Karen (and husband Thomas) Boyer, and his son Peter (and wife Amy) Frank, as well as 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Bud’s life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11 am in Linden Road Presbyterian Church where his family will receive friends the hour prior from 10 am – 11 am.
The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is honored to assist the Frank family with Bud’s memorial service.
