This weekend, for Palm Sunday, our music program is performing John Rutter’s Requiem.
This is a big deal on many fronts.
One, as different and unique way to begin Holy Week and the journey to Easter Sunday and understanding perhaps in a new way the beauty of what Jesus offers.
Two as way to share with the community the amazing talents of the Linden Road Choir under the direction of our Director of Music, Sheila Holloway.
Three, as a tool to help equip our amazing volunteer members to realize greater potential, and to see that when they lean into new territory, much good can abound.
Four, invite professional musicians to walk along side and empower others with their gifts and passions to broaden others.
We love these words from one of our faithful, Donny Walter, on thinking the Director of Music was “joking” when it was suggested, back in January, they would share this on Palm Sunday…
Donny said on facebook recently..
When our church choir director told us we were going to sing “Requiem” on Palm Sunday, I thought she was joking.
After a few weeks of practice, I KNEW she had to be joking, or maybe out of her mind. After several performances of pieces of the Requiem (some that went well, some that didn’t go so well), several more rehearsals, and the addition of some AMAZING professional singers and musicians, we finally put it all together tonight.
It has been quite a journey as it has required extended rehearsals and independent practice and study of the piece, but I am sooo glad Sheila stretched us with this challenge and I can’t wait for Sunday!
The intentional investment of time, talent and treasures can make amazing strides in moving the Kingdom forward.
Join us Sunday, March 25th 10:30 to see and hear for yourself some incredibly beautiful and inspirational music as we celebrate Palm Sunday.
