The Least Supper: Judas’ Betrayal and the Bread of Life
We’re diving in The Chosen Season 5’s powerful portrayal of the Last Supper, where Jesus reveals a betrayer among His disciples. “Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me” (John 13:21). That betrayer? Judas. But why would he do it? Why would Judas give Jesus away?
This week we explore the gripping moment from John 13:21-30, where Jesus dips the bread and hands it to Judas, signaling the betrayal that would lead to His crucifixion. We’ll connect this to John 6—Jesus feeding the 5,000 and declaring Himself the Bread of Life—and uncover the deeper hunger Judas chased: the bread of this world. From the miracle of the loaves and fish to the grumbling crowd who turned away we’ll see a bridge to Exodus 16 and Israel’s wilderness hunger. Judas wanted more than eternal life—he wanted the “stuff” of this world. His story ends in remorse, a haunting reminder of what happens when we chase fleeting bread over the One who satisfies forever.
